Day one of the three-day, 18-team tournament, was a windy one at the Samuelson Aquatics Center.

Cal Lutheran wasted no time heating up in the pool, however. During a two-game showing in which the defense shined, allowing just four goals, the offense attacked.

Kelsey Bergemann came out of the gate hot as the CLU senior scored three unanswered goals in less than four minutes for the Regals who took a 4-0 first quarter lead.

Teams would exchange goals in the second period, giving the home squad a 5-1 advantage at the intermission. Again in the third each team netted one goal.

Cal Lutheran added a trio in the fourth with Adrienne Ingalla scoring twice in her Sameulson Aquatics Center debut. The first came as she secured a rebound on a missed CLU shot and pushed the ball past APU goalie, Brooke Sovick with 5:03 to play. Ingalla then went on to score the final goal of the contest.

Also finding the back of the net for the Regals against Azusa Pacific were seniors Christina Messer and Claire Whitten, junior Shannon Streeter and freshman Kehau Ai with a goal apiece. Junior transfer Morgan McCardell handed out three assists, while drawing an ejection and picking up a pair of steals. Messer, Bergemann and Whitten each drew an ejection as well and Streeter came away with two of the 11 Regals steals.

In front of the cage, Kylee Tomasetti recorded eight blocks.

Game two was more of the same as the CLU defense held Grove City scoreless, while exploding for 13 goals.

Ten different players got in on the offensive outpouring with Kaylee Kastrup, Jordan Card and Bergemann each putting in a pair. Card gave CLU three man-up situations with a trio of drawn ejections. Messer tallied three assists, adding a goal. Streeter also drew a pair of ejections for the Regals.

Skylar Vasquez got the start in goal and blocked seven shots. She added two steals, as did Kennedy Peters.

In other games on the opening day of the three-day event, Fresno Pacific defeated Grove City 9-4, Pomona-Pitzer defeated Concordia-Irvine 7-6, Cal State Northridge defeated Fresno Pacific 15-3, Pomona-Pitzer defeated Azusa Pacific 7-5 and Cal State Northridge defeated Concordia-Irvine 15-6.

Action at the Posada Royale Invitational will continue tomorrow as CLU plays a pair of games with the first scheduled for 8:00 a.m. against Wheaton at the Samuelson Aquatics Center. CLU will conclude day two with a 4:45 p.m. match-up with Cal State Bakersfield. Games will be taking place at both the SAC and at Oaks Christian High School.
