THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Facing No. 29 Caltech just 24 hours after falling to the nation's top team, Cal Lutheran men's tennis delivered its most competitive performance of the 2026 SCIAC stretch on Saturday morning, narrowly falling 4-3.
The Kingsmen (3-8, 0-3 SCIAC) came within striking distance of an upset but were edged in doubles, as Caltech claimed two of the three matches to take the early 1-0 lead. The pairing of
Carlo Drewelow and
Raphael Simon earned a key 6-4 win at No. 2, but tight losses at No. 1 and No. 3 ultimately gave the Beavers the advantage.
Cal Lu responded with a strong showing in singles, capturing three victories and pushing multiple matches to the limit. Simon set the tone with a dominant 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 3, while
Toki Adachi battled through a three-set match at No. 2, rallying for a 4-6, 6-4, 10-3 victory.
Drewelow added another point for the Kingsmen at No. 5, overcoming a first-set loss to win in three sets, 5-7, 6-4, 6-1.
Despite the result, the Kingsmen showed resilience and depth throughout the lineup, signaling a strong step forward against nationally ranked competition.
Cal Lutheran will return to Poulson Tennis Center next Saturday, April 11, hosting Occidental at 3 p.m. as they look to build on the momentum from Saturday's performance.
