CLAREMONT, Calif. – Cal Lutheran men's tennis battled on the road Thursday afternoon, but fell 6-1 to No. 22 Pomona-Pitzer in SCIAC play.
The Kingsmen (3-10, 0-5 SCIAC) dropped the doubles point to open the match.
Ethan Sherwood and
Maxence Faniel faced a tough challenge at No. 1, falling 6-3, while the No. 3 pairing of
Mills Hall and
Toki Adachi dropped a 6-4 decision. At No. 2,
Carlo Drewelow and
Raphael Simon pushed their match to the limit but came up short in a 7-6 (7-4) loss as the Sagehens secured the early advantage.
In singles, Adachi provided the highlight for Cal Lu with a gritty win at No. 2. After dropping a tight first set, he responded in the next two, pulling away for a 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, [10-5] victory to account for the Kingsmen's lone point.
Pomona controlled the remaining singles matches, earning straight-set wins across the other five courts to clinch the team victory.
Cal Lutheran will look to regroup as it heads to Whittier on Saturday, April 18 at 10 a.m., with two matches remaining in the regular season.
