ALISO VIEJO, Calif. – Cal Lutheran University had three student-athletes recognized with SCIAC Athlete of the Week honors for their performances this past week, as
Janna Holley,
Summer Gelman, and
Tyler Thompson each earned accolades in their respective sports.
Women's Basketball – Offensive
Holley (Winnetka, Calif.) continued her strong stretch of play, earning Offensive Athlete of the Week honors for the second consecutive week and the third time this season. The senior point guard provided steady offensive leadership in a pair of conference victories, averaging 12.5 points per game while logging 72 minutes on the court.
Against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Holley finished with 13 points and was perfect from both three-point range and the free throw line. She followed with 12 points and four assists versus Caltech, shooting 4-for-7 from the field and 4-for-5 at the line. On the week, Holley shot 42 percent from the floor and went 8-for-9 from the stripe.
Women's Track & Field – Track
Gelman (Agoura Hills, Calif.) led the Regals at the Moorpark College Season Opener with a runner-up finish in the 3,000-meter run, crossing the line in 11:18.08. The senior is coming off a strong fall cross country season, highlighted by an All-SCIAC honor following her 10th-place finish in the 5K at the conference championships.
Men's Track & Field – Field
Thompson (Valencia, Calif.) made an impressive Division III debut at the Moorpark College Season Opener, recording a personal-best leap of 6.86 meters in the long jump. The sophomore multi-sport athlete also contributed to the Kingsmen's 4x400-meter relay team, which placed fifth at the meet.
