PORTLAND, Ore. — The California Lutheran University men's tennis team completed a perfect sweep of its Pacific Northwest road trip on Monday afternoon, defeating the University of Puget Sound 6-1.
The Kingsmen (3-1) secured the opening doubles point by winning all three matches, marking their first doubles sweep of the young season.
Carlo Drewelow and
Mateo Sonaglia provided the early spark at the No. 2 position with a 6-4 victory, giving Cal Lutheran a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
In singles, the Kingsmen left little room for a Loggers comeback. Cal Lutheran dominated the individual flights for the third consecutive match, led by
Maxence Faniel, who extended the lead with a nearly flawless 6-0, 6-1 performance at the No. 3 spot.
Drewelow maintained the momentum at No. 4 singles, cruising to a 6-1, 6-3 victory followed by
Toki Adachi who officially clinched the team win at the No. 2 position, delivering a clinical 6-3, 6-3 performance to secure the deciding fourth point for the Kingsmen.
The bottom of the lineup proved equally dominant, as Sonaglia secured an 8-4 victory at No. 5 and
Matthew Goldstein overwhelmed his opponent at No. 6 with a commanding 8-1 win.
With the victory, the Kingsmen finish their three-game road swing undefeated. Cal Lutheran returns to action on Saturday, March 14 at UC Santa Cruz with first serve scheduled for 2 p.m.
