Kingsmen Baseball SCIAC Tournament Preview

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The Kingsmen have claimed the #4 seed in the SCIAC Tournament and will clash with the #5 Redlands Bulldogs in Game 1 on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. The winner of Game 1 will travel to La Verne and take on the Leopards the following day. Cal Lutheran found itself in a three-way tie for second place after conference play. With three teams sitting at 16-8, Pomona-Pitzer took #2 as it had a better head-to-head record against CMS and Cal Lutheran. CMS was named #3 due to its series win over the Kingsmen.

#4 Kingsmen
Erik Scherer is wrapping up his third year as Cal Lutheran's manager. In 2025, he led the Kingsmen to a 27-13 regular season record and 16-8 in conference play, which was enough to earn a home postseason game as the #4 seed. Cal Lutheran won 10 of 12 series throughout the season, including series wins over Redlands and La Verne. The Kingsmen possess a two-headed monster on the mound in Luke Wechsler and Leo Bristow. Both are top-three in earned run average in the SCIAC. Cal Lutheran also has one of the most dangerous offenses in the conference led by Lucas Danielewicz. The Kingsmen outfielder is fourth in batting average, fifth in hits, and fourth in OPS.

The Field
#5 Redlands Bulldogs
The Bulldogs finished the season with a 26-14 record and 15-9 in SCIAC play to sneak into the last tournament spot. Cal Lutheran took two out of three against Redlands, with all games being decided by tight margins. The ace for the Bulldogs is Nathan Buchan, who leads the SCIAC in wins and ranks ninth in ERA. Redlands also has a well-rounded offense as the team is third in both batting average and total hits.

#3 CMS Stags
The Stags, led by slugger Andrew Mazzone, enter the SCIAC tournament with a 30-10 record, 16-8 in conference. Mazzone has been dominant for the Stags as he leads the SCIAC in batting average, slugging percentage, and on base percentage. The Kingsmen took a game from the Sagehens in a walk-off thriller.
