Cal Lutheran men's golf will tee off at the SCIAC Championships this weekend at the Los Lagos course at Costa Mesa Country Club. The three-day tournament involving seven SCIAC teams begins on Sunday and ends on Tuesday as the Kingsmen will look to claim their first SCIAC Championship since 2001.
Cal Lutheran
The Kingsmen enter the weekend ranked #28 in the
Clippd rankings after an up-and-down 2024-25 season. Winners of the Kingsmen Invitational in mid-March, they finished top-2 in four events this year. In SCIAC #1, Cal Lutheran placed second behind a -7 team score. SCIAC #2 was a completely different story, with the Kingsmen finishing in seventh. In the most recentÂ
GCAA coaches' poll, Cal Lutheran is the third team outside the top 25, receiving 12 votes.
Led by senior duo
Blake Fitzhugh (#125,
nationally) and
Adam Cartozian (#130), Cal Lutheran relies on its depth, as any member of the team has the ability to compete at the highest level on any given day. Two more seniors will represent the Kingsmen in
Hudson Solters and
Tanner Stewart. Rounding out the team in Costa Mesa will be
Ty Kuroda.
#13 Redlands
The Bulldogs sit atop the SCIAC rankings as the Championships approach. Currently ranked #13 in Clippd and #14 in the GCAA, Redlands finished first in SCIAC #1 and third in SCIAC #2. Its top performers this season have been Aaron Buck (#16) and Jonas DeLeon (#30). Buck is the highest-ranked individual player in the SCIAC.
#19 Pomona-Pitzer
The Sagehens have been playing well as of late, ranked #19 in Clippd and #22 in the GCAA ahead of the SCIAC Championships. They finished third in SCIAC #1 and won SCIAC #2 by double-digit strokes. Pomona-Pitzer is led by Nilay Naik (#31) and John Kim (#70). Naik won SCIAC #2 by four strokes.
#23 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps
The Stags have an impressive array of talent, currently ranked #23 in Clippd and #24 in the GCAA. CMS tied for fourth in SCIAC #1 and climbed to second in SCIAC #2. The only SCIAC team with three individuals in the top-100 nationally, they will rely on Jamison Tan (#48), Michael Ma (#62), and Arnold He (#98). Ma won SCIAC #1 with a score of -6.
La Verne
The Leopards play consistent golf and enter the SCIAC Championships ranked #27 in Clippd, and they received one vote from the GCAA. They tied for fourth in SCIAC #1 and finished fifth in SCIAC #2. La Verne is led by Jason Bustos (#24) and Jay Wing (#79).
Occidental
The Tigers sit at #54 in Clippd and will look to make some noise in the SCIAC Championships. They finished seventh in SCIAC #1 and sixth in SCIAC #2. Adam Elshamy (#61) is Occidental's top player entering the weekend.
Chapman
The Panthers are currently ranked #57 in Clippd but should not be overlooked. They placed sixth in SCIAC #1 before earning a fourth-place finish in SCIAC #2. Chapman is led by Ben Soicher (#34).
First tee at the par-72Â Los Lagos will be at 10:30am on Sunday morning. Round two will begin on Monday at 8:30am, and the final round begins at 7am on Tuesday. Tee times for rounds two and three will be announced the evening prior. Tee times can be found alongside the live stats.
