THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran men's tennis began 2025 SCIAC play on Friday, hosting Pomona-Pitzer. The Kingsmen battled but ultimately fell to the Sagehens 7-0.
After a successful trip to Texas in which Cal Lutheran went 3-1, they returned home to host the #24 team in the nation in Pomona-Pitzer.
The duos of
Ethan Sherwood/
Loup Sudre and
Raphael Simon/
Carlo Drewelow fought hard but couldn't pull out wins, with each losing their match 6-4. Pomona-Pitzer would take all three doubles matches to gain the first team point.
Simon captured the first set of his singles match but ended up falling 4-6, 6-2, 6-1. Sudre tested his opponent in a 7-5, 6-4 defeat. Drewelow and
Frederick Otto each lost 6-3, 6-4.
Despite the result on the scoreboard, Head Coach
Mike Gennette remained positive after the match.
"We competed well and the energy was high. Had a close one in the doubles matches and played them tough in the singles," said Gennette. "They are a highly-ranked team and we showed what we can do."
It was an odd scheduling of a SCIAC match with it being so early in the season. Cal Lutheran now has four non-conference matches left before it continues SCIAC play in late March. The Kingsmen will need to put this one behind them quickly, as they travel to Santa Barbara to face Westmont tomorrow at 2:30pm.
