Stitt Shoots +8, Kingsmen Finish 17th in Golfweek Classic

SANDESTIN, Flor. – Cal Lutheran men's golf traveled to Florida this past week to play in the Golfweek Classic at the par-71 Raven Golf Club. The Kingsmen played 18 holes per day in the three-day event that began on Sunday and ended this morning. 24 schools made the trip to San Destin, and Cal Lutheran finished in 17th.

Making the trip for the Kingsmen were Ty Kuroda, Nick Huffman, Ryan Mattivi, Kaden Devenport, and Jackson Stitt. Each of them teed off on the 10th hole to begin all three rounds.

On Sunday, Stitt birdied the par-5 hole 11 to go under par early. He only registered two bogeys the rest of the way to finish at +1. Mattivi also birdied hole 11, then added nine pars before birdying his final hole to end at +4. Kuroda collected a birdie on the par-5 hole 17 en route to a round of +6. Huffman played an up-and-down round that saw him lead the Kingsmen in total birdies on the day with three, as he etched a +9 on his scorecard. Devenport contributed 11 pars and shot +12.

Cal Lutheran ended Round 1 at +20, placing them 20th on the leaderboard. Stitt's impressive round landed him at T-13th heading into the second day.

Kuroda played high-quality golf on Monday, stringing together 13 pars along with three birdies in the final seven holes to shoot under par at -1. Stitt started building on his outstanding opening round with two birdies in his first five holes and sat at -2 through 13, but he lost some steam at the end and finished at +3. Huffman birdied hole 11 and knocked in 12 pars en route to a +6 round. Davenport sank three birdies but ended with a round of +8. Mattivi collected 12 pars to shoot +8.

As a team, the Kingsmen put up a +16, climbing up one spot to 19th with a +36 score through 36 holes. Stitt (T-26, +4) and Kuroda (T-30, +5) both entered the final round in the individual top 30.

On Tuesday, Huffman played the best round of any Cal Lutheran golfer throughout the tournament. He rode five birdies and 11 pars to shoot a -3. Devenport shot his best round of the tournament, as he birdied hole 10, parred the next 10, then managed another birdie on hole 3. He picked up his third birdie on hole 7 and finished at E. Kuroda had a solid day, knocking in a birdie on hole 5 and ended at +4. Stitt had another great round overall, birdying holes 10 and 15, but a triple-bogey on hole 17 pushed his score down to +4 on the day. Mattivi birdied hole 1 and shot +11.

The Kingsmen were tied for the 10th-lowest team score on Tuesday, which brought them up to 17th overall. The individual finishes were: T-44th, Stitt, +8; T-51st, Kuroda, +9; T-71st, Huffman, +12; T-101st, Davenport, +20; 107th, Mattivi, +23.

This concludes the fall season for Cal Lutheran.
