THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran men's and women's swimming and diving broke in the new year by hosting Concordia University Irvine, Hamline University, and Lawrence University in their annual Chris Knorr Invite on Thursday morning. The Kingsmen and Regals both finished second behind CUI, with 654 and 784 points, respectively.
"We raced hard," said Head Coach
Barry Schreifels. "It's important to improve in the middle of heavy training and we were great. We have a lot of work in front of us – the focus is the SCIAC Championship".
The men's and women's teams combined for 12 event wins with the Regals earning eight and the men collecting the remaining four.
Madi Bodhidatta led the way with three individual wins for the Regals, followed by
Kendall Moffitt and
Brooke Blaylock who each won twice.
Lincoln Hall secured two victories for the Kingsmen, while
Ethan Lavery and
Sebi Petho each added one apiece.
Bodhidatta took first in the 50 free with 24.66 seconds, the 100 free with 54.28, and the 100 butterfly with 1:00.26. Moffitt earned her wins in the 200 butterfly and the 500 free with 2:13.52 and 5:16.24, respectively. Blaylock rounded out the individual wins for the women, sweeping both the 1 meter and 3 meter dives. The Regals combined for one more win as
Owan Fralick,
Tori Portillo, Bodhidatta, and
Breann Bracken stole the 200 medley relay with 1:50.02.
For the men, Hall took the 100 breast with 57.08 and the 200 breast with 2:10.30. Lavery finished first in the 200 butterfly with 2:01.13 and Petho won the 500 free with 4:52.63.
Both teams were also the runner-ups in 12 events and took third in 16 more.
The Kingsmen and Regals return to action on Saturday when they travel to Pasadena for a tri-meet with Caltech and the University of Redlands.
