THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Ethan Sherwood and Loup Sudre won at the No. 1 doubles spot but Cal Lutheran men's tennis fell to the Caltech Beavers 8-1 on Saturday afternoon.
The duo of Sherwood and Sudre were ranked No. 6 in the West Region in the latest poll. Since then, they beat took the No. 5 team in the region from Chapman and the No. 2 team from Caltech. They defeated the Beavers 8-5.
The Beavers took the other two doubles matches and took a 2-1 lead to singles. Raphael Simon and Carlo Drewelow and fell 2-8 at the No. 2 and Frederick Otto and Andy Ai lost 6-8 at No. 3.
The Kingsmen fell in all six doubles matches as they dropped the dual to the Beavers. Sherwood pushed his match to three sets. He took the first set 6-4 but fell 4-6 in the second and 11-13 in the third. Sudre was defeated 4-6, 1-6 at the No. 2, Simon was retired at the No. 3, Ai fell 2-6, 0-6 at the No. 4, James Truong lost 0-6, 5-7 at the No. 5, and Jakob Buhler was defeated 4-6, 2-6 at the No. 6.
The Kingsmen wrapped up the regular season with a record of 6-12 overall and 1-6 in SCIAC.
The Kingsmen await a committee decision for any single student-athletes or doubles teams to make the NCAA Championship. The Kingsmen will also compete in the Ojai Tournament from April 25-28.
