THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Carmen Bufkin defeated the No. 22 nationally ranked opponent as the Regals fell to No. 4 Middlebury 8-1 on Monday.
Bufkin went the distance, taking down her opponent in three sets. Bufkin was in the NCAA tournament last year and has had continued success against top players this year. She won her match 7-5, 2-6, 10-2.
Middlebury took the rest of the points. They swept doubles play as Bufkin and Mina Ahmadi were defeated at the No. 1, Kylee Limpias and Maddy Ford fell at the No. 2, and Luisa Garcia and Gerda Jucys fell at the No. 3.
The Regals battled in singles but Middlebury took the other five matches. Garcia fell at the No. 2, Ford lost at the No. 3, Fatima Nemi Revilla fell at the No. 4, Limpias was defeated at the No. 5, and Kling lost at the No. 6.
The Regals jump back into conference play and are at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday at 2 pm.
