THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Despite an early morning start, Cal Lutheran women's tennis didn't miss a beat, delivering a dominant 6-0 sweep over Linfield on Wednesday at the Poulson Tennis Center.
Due to a scheduling adjustment, the match was played to clinch with singles action beginning first. The change did little to slow the Regals, who turned in commanding straight-set performances across the lineup. Cal Lu controlled every court from start to finish, not allowing more than two games in any set.
Anaya Ayanbadejo and
Eva Toplak continued their strong play in the middle of the lineup, each posting flawless 6-0, 6-0 victories at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.
Hannah Houwari matched that effort at No. 6 with a 6-0, 6-0 win of her own.
Evelyn Oltmans was equally dominant at No. 3, surrendering just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Higher up the lineup,
Anya Rajan secured a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2, while
Kylee Limpias capped the sweep at the top spot with a 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 1.
With the victory, the Regals extend their winning streak to seven matches, continuing to build momentum heading into conference play. The win also wraps up Cal Lutheran's non-conference slate, where the team finished an impressive 7-1 with its only loss coming against a strong NCAA Division II Westmont squad.
The Regals now turn their focus to SCIAC competition, opening conference play on the road against the nation's top-ranked team, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, on Friday, March 27 at 4:30 p.m.
