THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran women's tennis put together a strong start on Saturday morning, but No. 29 Caltech rallied in singles to hand the Regals a 5-2 setback at the Poulson Tennis Center.
The Regals came out sharp in doubles, securing the opening point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3.
Eva Toplak and
Anaya Ayanbadejo led the way with a 6-1 victory, while
Kylee Limpias and
Anya Rajan followed with a 6-3 win at the top spot to give Cal Lu early momentum.
Holding a 1-0 lead heading into singles, the Regals looked to build on their fast start, but the Beavers responded with a dominant showing across the lineup.
Evelyn Oltmans provided the highlight for Cal Lu, earning a straight-set 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 3 to account for the team's lone point in singles play. Rajan also battled in a tightly contested match at No. 2, pushing the first set to a tiebreak before ultimately falling.
Cal Lutheran returns to action at home on Saturday, April 11, hosting Occidental at 10 a.m. as conference play continues.
