LOS ANGELES — The Cal Lutheran men's and women's track and field teams showed out at the Oxy Distance Carnival/Spring Break Classic on Saturday.
Eric Talbert and Brooke Hougo put up top times on their program's top-10 list. Talbert was fifth all-time in the 5000-meter run with 15:04.64 and Hougo was sixth in the 3000-meter steeplechase with 12:15.95.
The Kingsmen and Regals made it on the podium four times with Sarah Bjornson and Jake MacKinnon placing second and Bjornson and Niani Jones finishing third. Bjornson was second in the high jump with 1.57 meters and third in the pole vault with 3.10m. MacKinnon led the Kingsmen and was second in the hammer with 45.55m and Jones was third in the triple jump with 10.32m.
"Proud of how the Kingsmen & Regals competed at Oxy," Head Coach Brett Halvaks said. "We had many strong performances throughout the meet highlighted by two Top 10 All-Time marks. Without a meet next weekend it will be nice to get in a good two-week training block before our next meet."
The teams turned in three more top-five finishes and seven more top-10 finishes. Jones continued to dominate the jumping events and was fourth in the long jump with 5.05m. Taylor Kemp added a fourth-place finish in the javelin with 30.12m and Darrin Parham was fifth in the triple jump with 12.73m.
More individuals placing in the top 10 was Cheyanne Rodriguez as she placed seventh in the hammer with 39.02m, Logan Abounader being seventh in the discus with 37.80m, Param being ninth in the long jump with 6.04m, Rodriguez being 10th in the discus with 31.71m, and Cora Hautekeete being 10th in the 3000 meter steeplechase with 12:15.95. Both 4x400 relay teams placed eighth as Jennyfer Hernandez Rosas, Crystal Rosales, Ericka Clemons, and Erik Garcia clocked a time of 4:42.16 while Johnny Borjas, Caleb Berry, Matthew Crellin, and Brady Karsten had 3:58.34.
The Kingsmen and Regals competed in 11 more events. The top finishers were MacKinnon in the shot put (12th, 11.95m), Berry, Daniel Burgos, Luke Chang, and Brody Villasenor in the 4x100 relay (12th, 47.64), Abounader in the javelin (16th, 34.94m), Sophia Green in the shot put (19th, 8.78m), Bjornson in the 100 dash (25th, 13.30), Rosales in the 400 dash (29th, 1:08.82), Crellin in the 400 dash (42nd, 57.06), Eric Talbert in the 5000 run (15:04.64), Borjas in the 100 dash (50th, 11.80), Hautekeete in the 1500 run (5:36.83), and Max Segeberg in the 1500 run (4:27.49).
Up next for the Kingsmen and Regals is the Westmont Classic which is on March 23rd at 9 am.
