PORTLAND, Ore. — Cal Lutheran men's tennis won two duals on Monday as they defeated Pacific (Ore.) 5-4 and Lewis & Clark 5-0.
The Kingsmen finished their Northwest Conference trip with a record of 4-1. Their only loss was a 5-4 decision as they played well against their NWC counterparts.
To start the day, the Kingsmen had a battle with the Pacific Boxers. The Kingsmen found themselves behind after doubles play as only Loup Sudre and Ethan Sherwood came up with a win. The duo was victorious 8-7 (4 ) at the No. 1.
In the next two doubles, Andy Ai and James Truong fell 6-8 at the No. 2 and Raphael Simon and Jakob Buhler lost 6-8 at the No. 3.
The Kingsmen bounced back in singles, winning four matches and taking the dual. Sherwood won 7-6 (8), 6-2 at the No. 1 spot, Ai won 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 2, Simon outlasted his opponent 6-1, 1-6, 11-9 at the No. 3, and Truong was victorious 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 6. Sudre fell at the No. 4 and Jake Anderson did so at the No. 5.
The Kingsmen capped off their rod trip with Lewis & Clark. The Kingsmen got off to a quick start as they took all three doubles matches. Sudre and Sherwood won 8-6 at the No. 1, Ai and Truong were victorious 8-6 at the No. 2 and Simon and Buhler won 8-6 at the No. 3.
The teams had time constraints in singles play and it was called early when the Kingsmen got enough points to win. Ai won 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 2 and Simon won 7-5, 6-1 at the No. 4.
After five duals on the road, the Kingsmen return home. They host Jessup on February 27th at 1 pm.
