MCMINNVILLE, Ore. — Cal Lutheran men's tennis put up a tough fight against Linfield but came up just short falling 5-4 on Sunday night.
The Kingsmen were in an early hole as they won one of the three doubles sets. Andy Ai and James Truong won 8-7 (7-3) in the No. 2 spot. The Kingsmen fell in the other two spots as Ethan Sherwood and Luop Sudre lost 6-8 at the No. 1 and Raphael Simon and Jakob Buhler fell 3-8 at the No. 3.
The singles sets went back in forth with the Kingsmen and Wildcats each winning three. Sherwood came from behind and took the No. 1 set 2-6, 6-0, 10-6 to tie the dual at 2-2. Simon fell 3-6, 6-3, 4-10 at the No. 3 as the Wildcats took back the lead 3-2.
The Wildcats won two of the next three singles sets and clinched the dual. Luop Sudre won 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 4 and Truong took the No. 6 spot 6-1, 6-2. Linfield took the No. 2 as Ai fell 5-7, 6-3, 7-10 and Jake Anderson lost 3-6, 7-6, 8-10 at the No. 5.
The Kingsmen cap off their road trip on Monday. They take on Pacific (Ore.) at 9 am and Lewis & Clark at 3 pm.
