Kingsmen Win Twice on Saturday, Sweep Series with Whittier

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — The Cal Lutheran baseball team defeated Whittier in both games on Saturday, 3-1 and 17-4, sweeping the series. The Kingsmen pushed win streak to six, and are now 7-2 overall and 3-0 in conference. 

Game One
Luke Wechsler started the game and pitched for 8.1 innings. He faced 30 batters and had eight strikeouts. He allowed six hits, one run, and got the win.

The Cal Lutheran bats struggled a bit in the beginning, until Max Heverly hit a single and brought Josh Quinn home in the bottom of the third. The Kingsmen managed to hold their lead until the Poets scored at the top of the fourth, tying the game 1-1. 

The Kingsmen scored twice at the bottom of the sixth inning. Heverly scored on a wild pitch and a double from Kyle Reuser brought Joseph Scalzo home. The Poets never closed the distance as Tristan Dupont closed the game, pitching the final 0.2 innings, and got the save. Cal Lutheran claimed the series, carrying them to their fifth win in a row. 

Game Two
John Frazier opened the game for the Kingsmen as he pitched five innings and faced 16 batters. He allowed one hit, one run, had five strikeouts, and got the win.

The Kingsmen launched into the game strong as they scored 10 times in the first inning. They managed to keep the momentum going as they scored once in both the second and third inning, bringing the score to 13-0. 

Bryan Tierney took over the mound as he faced four batters and had four strikeouts. He was followed by Kyle Johnson, who faced six batters. Johnson allowed one hit, three runs.

The Poets managed to put themselves on the board at the top of the sixth, but the Kingsmen kept tcoming and scored four more times. 

Gregory Pimentel was the final pitcher for the Kingsmen as he faced two batters. He had one strikeout as Cal Lutheran swept the series.

11 Kingsmen recorded a hit as Durfee and Sebastian Smith had three each. Smith recorded three RBI and Kaden Brennan and Griffin Zitko had two each. 10 Kingsmen tallied a RBI.

The Kingsmen next game will be at home against Nebraska Wesleyan on Thursday, Mar. 9, at 2:30 p.m.
