Kyaw T-12th, Kingsmen sixth after 36 holes of SCIAC Championships

CHINO HILLS, Calif. — After 36 holes of the SCIAC Championships, the Cal Lutheran men's golf team is currently in sixth place at 28-over-par with 604 strokes (298-306).

The SCIAC Championships consist of seven rounds of golf. The SCIAC #1 was played Saturday and Sunday at the Los Serranos North course. The next two round of the SCIAC Championships will be played on April 6-7 with the final three rounds on April 18-20. 

Sophomore Ryan Kyaw leads the Kingsmen and is tied for 12th at 4-over-par (148 strokes). He is only six strokes behind the leader. He shot an impressive 1-under-par 71 on Saturday and was tied for second, but fell back 10 spots after shooting a 77 on Sunday.

Fellow classmate Drake Jones also dropped back 10 spots on day two. After shooting a 73 on the first 18 holes, he tallied a 76 on the second 18, and is tied for 16th at 5-over-par (149). 

Junior Stefan Nelson and senior Tyler Shuster rounded out the team score. Nelson moved up three spots on the second day and tied for 23rd at 7-over-par. He shot a 77 on Saturday and improved with a 74 on Sunday for a total of 151 strokes. Shuster recorded a 77 and a 79, respectively, and is 32nd at 12-over-par. 

Junior Drew Christofferson and senior Jake Rosen also competed for the Violet and Gold. Christofferson is tied for 33rd at 13-over-par (78-79-157) and Rosen tied for 40th at 15-over-par (78-81-159). 

The Kingsmen were fourth after 18 holes as they fired a 298 on Saturday. They followed it up with a 306 as they dropped to the sixth spot. CLU is four strokes behind Occidental for the fourth spot and one stroke behind fifth place Chapman. Redlands is in first at 1-under-par (288-287-575). La Verne (293-287-580) is second at 4-over-par followed by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (296-292-588) in third at 12-over-par.  

Redlands Jake Hollander (70-72-142) and Cameron Cooper (71-71-142) and La Verne's Pitiluk Phanomchai (75-67-142) are all tied for the lead at 2-under-par.

Up next for the Kingsmen is the UCSD Tournament which is March 4-5 at the Carlton Oaks Country Club in Santee, Calif.
