Kingsmen Take Series Win over Sagehens

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CLAREMONT, Calif. — Seeking to bounce back from yesterday's loss, the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen dominated the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens in Saturday's double header to take the series victory. Seven different Kingsmen recorded RBIs in game one's 9-3 win and Weston Clark's home run erased an early deficit for game two's 5-3 win.

Cal Lutheran cruised in game one on a 14-hit start to the afternoon. Anthony Sidley went 3-for-4 with a run, and Tanner Wright and Max Weinstein contributed two RBIs apiece. On the mound, Derek Galvin pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing just four hits while striking out seven.

The Kingsmen broke open the score in the fourth, loading the bases for Ethan Go who worked a walk to bring in the first run of the game. Trevor Egan followed with a single and Alec Iniguez was hit by a pitch to bring in runs two and three. Wright then knocked a sacrifice fly out to center to bring home Go and run the score up 4-0.

The sixth inning brought in two more runs for Cal Lutheran. Wright singled to left center to score Egan and Weinstein emphasized his return with a two-RBI home run to center field in just his second game back from injury.

The Sagehens three runs in the bottom of the eighth were not enough though and RBIs by Jeff Wilson and Daniel Stauffer capped off the 9-3 performance.

The Kingsmen secured the series in game two on Clark's two-RBI home run in the top of the sixth that erased their early 2-1 deficit. Singles by Cheynne Giles and Kaden White tacked on two more runs in the top of the eighth.

White finished 3-for-3 in the second half of the afternoon with a RBI and walk. Matt Sciumbato also contributed three hits of his own, going 3-for-5 with two runs.

Defensively, Troy Frazier pitched six innings of two-run ball and earned the win to remain a perfect 3-0 on the season. Christian Slattery closed out the game for the Kingsmen and earned his fifth save of the season.

Cal Lutheran looks to continue their win streak against Williams (Mass.) on Monday, March 26, 2018. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. PST.
