Kingsmen Win Series Against Wildcats

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The No. 2 California Lutheran baseball team swept the Linfield Wildcats, 13-5 and 8-5, Saturday afternoon in Ullman Stadium.

The Kingsmen avenged the loss from Friday night and improved to 2-1 on the young season. Linfield dropped to 1-2.

In the first game, Jeff Rebello, Ryne Yamashiro and Ethan Go each had 2 RBIs apiece. Six more Kingsmen tallied a RBI in the game. Senior transfer Derek Galvin pitched seven strong innings and struck out five batters as he recorded his first win with the Kingsmen.

With the score tied at 1-1 in the fourth, CLU scored 12 runs over the next four innings and took a commanding 13-1 at the end of the eighth.

Rebello reached on an error as he scored Trevor Egan and Daniel Parr. Go recorded his RBIs with the help of an error by the pitcher. Yamashiro doubled to left field as he tallied two of the six RBIs in the seventh inning.

Linfield tried to answer, but Galvin was too much. The Wildcats got four runs in the top of the ninth before Sal Johnson shut them down.

The Kingsmen kept the bats going in the second game. The game was scoreless through the first two innings. That all changed when Jeff Wilson singled, scoring Yamashiro and Alec Iniguez.

Linfield tied up the game at 3-3 in the top of the fourth. In the bottom of the inning, CLU took the lead back. Tanner Wright, Yamashiro and Weston Clark all recorded a RBI.

The Kingsmen pitching and defense took care of the rest as CLU won the second game 8-5.

Cal Lutheran is away for its next three games. The first game they play is against the University of Texas-Dallas Friday in Tucson Ariz., at 4 p.m.
