PASADENA, Calif. - On a scorching day in Pasadena, the No. 18 Cal Lutheran baseball team took care of business with a doubleheader sweep over Caltech on Saturday afternoon. In game one, the Kingsmen racked up 16 hits in a 12-5 win while concluding the day with an 8-0 shutout to clinch the series sweep.

CLU def. CIT 12-5
CLU scored at least one run in the first five innings to put the game away early on. In the first inning, the Kingsmen offense was highlighted by a two-RBI double by Weston Clark with the bases loaded while Brad Fullerton added an RBI groundout. RBI singles from Max Weinstein and Austin Kay continued to add to the CLU lead and Clark drove in another run with a single in the fourth. The Beavers mustered three runs in the fourth, but Gabe Gunter kept the Kingsmen offense alive in the fifth with a two-out, two-RBI double. In the seventh, CLU rounded out the scoring with three more runs on RBI hits from Gunter and Jimmy Jauregui while Trey Saito chipped in a sac fly.

Saito continued his torrid hitting with a 4-for-5 performance after collecting three hits yesterday and Gunter was also hot at the plate with a 3-for-4 day and three RBIs. Clark finished 2-for-5 with three RBIs as well and seven Kingsmen added one hit apiece. On the mound, Nate Wehner (6-3) earned the win after throwing eight innings, scattering 11 hits and striking out seven.

CLU def. CIT 8-0
In the series finale, the Kingsmen shut out the Beavers behind strong pitching performances from Scott Roberts and Miguel Salud. Roberts went seven strong allowing just four hits while striking out six and Salud closed out the game with a perfect final two innings.

After a Weinstein RBI single put CLU on the board in the second, Fullerton added a two-RBI single in the fifth to give the Kingsmen a 3-0 lead. Fullerton came around to score later in the frame after a Cheynne Giles single followed by a rundown. After leading off the seventh inning with a double, Matt Sciumbato came around to score on a Caltech error and Giles capped off the scoring with a bang, blasting a two-run homerun to left center.

Sciumbato went 4-for-5 to lead the offense while Giles added three hits and Gunter and Jauregui each came away with two.

The Kingsmen tallied 16 hits in all three games in the series and now have a two-game lead on first place with three games remaining.

Cal Lutheran (26-9, 16-5 SCIAC) rounds out SCIAC play with a series against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps beginning Friday, Apr. 28 on the road at 3:00 p.m.
