CLAREMONT, Calif. - One day after playing No. 15 Redlands, the schedule did not get any easier for the Cal Lutheran men's tennis team who faced No. 4 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) road match at Biszantz Family Tennis Center. After putting up a fight, the Kingsmen fell 9-0 to the Stags on Saturday afternoon.
CMS jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles competition, but not without a battle at No. 2. The Kingsmen pairing of Chris Hartman and Lucas Tilly nearly pulled out a win but fell 9-7 to Glen Hull and Lestter Yeh. Dara Kashani and Michael Sulahian fell 8-4 at No. 3 while Gio Valdez and Jesper Lunding-Johansson dropped No. 1, 8-3.
In singles action, Valdez won the first set at No. 1 before Avinash Vemuri rallied for a 2-6, 6-3, 10-6 victory. The Stags swept the rest of the matches in straight sets to complete the sweep.
Cal Lutheran (2-11, 1-3 SCIAC) will return to Poulson Tennis Center for a match against Occidental next Saturday, Apr. 9 at 10:00 a.m.
