THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - After playing its first road matches of the season last weekend, the Cal Lutheran women's tennis team made a seamless transition back to Poulson Tennis Center with a 9-0 sweep over sister school Pacific Lutheran to conclude non-conference play on Thursday.
The Regals jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles play led by an 8-0 win at No. 3 by Annette Sousa and Christie Kurdys. At No. 1 doubles, Gianna Cupo and Emily Werman were the first to finish with a quick 8-1 victory while Rebecca Gold and Sarah Seeman wrapped up an 8-2 win at No. 2.
Singles play was more of the same as the Violet and Gold continued their strong play. Sousa picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 6 while Gold swept past her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5. Cupo followed with a 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1, Kurdys put away No. 4 with a score of 6-0, 6-3 and Seeman secured a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2. Werman completed the sweep for the Regals with a 6-1, 7-5 battle at No. 3.
Cal Lutheran (9-2) will now enter the thick of its Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) schedule with a road match against Redlands tomorrow, Apr. 1 at 3:00 p.m.
