THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - For the second time in two days, the Cal Lutheran men's tennis team dropped a non-conference match at Poulson Tennis Center, this time falling to Arizona Christian 7-2 on Wednesday night.
Doubles action looked promising at the start as CLU held leads at No. 1 and No. 2 but a late rally by Ezequiel Suarez and Tyler Cawthorne of the Firestorm upset Gio Valdez and Jesper Lunding-Johansson at No. 1. The pairing of Chris Hartman and Lucas Tilly were able to break away from ACU for an 8-5 victory at No. 2, but the Kingsmen trailed 2-1 heading into singles action.
Valdez continued his strong singles play with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Santiago Galeffi at No. 1, and is now 4-1 this season, but the Firestorm were too much to overcome and swept the other five courts in straight sets.
Cal Lutheran (1-4) continues non-conference action as they will travel to Walla Walla, Wash. for a match against Swarthmore this Saturday, Mar. 5 at 8:00 a.m.
