THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The final non-conference match of the spring for the Cal Lutheran men's tennis team did not have the outcome the Kingsmen hoped for as they fell 8-1 to the Boxers from Pacific (Ore.) today at the Poulson Tennis Center.
Pacific took an early 3-0 lead after doubles action, though all three courts played to 8-4 final scores.
Once singles action got underway, the lone CLU point came at No. 1 where Gio Valdez earned a third set tiebreaker, 2-6, 6-3, 1-0, over Brennan Faith to provide the Kingsmen with a team point.
On the third court, Jesper Lunding-Johansson nearly stole the second set to force a tiebreaker, but he fell 6-4, 7-6. Chris Hartman, who was forced to withdraw from singles play yesterday, returned to serve up at No. 4 where he challenged Reuben Mulhern in a 6-4, 6-3 loss.
Overall, Cal Lutheran played the Boxers tough and everyone took at least one game from his respective opponent.
Cal Lutheran (2-9) has nearly two weeks off before returning to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Friday, April 1 when the Violet and Gold host Redlands for a 3:00 p.m. first serve.
