THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - On a sunny Tuesday afternoon, the No. 34 Cal Lutheran men's tennis team dropped a non-conference match, 7-2, against No. 37 Christopher Newport at Poulson Tennis Center.
The Captains got off to a quick start in doubles competition taking a 2-1 lead with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. The Kingsmen salvaged a point at No. 3 as Dara Kashani and Michael Sulahian rallied for an 8-6 win against Nicholas Ruzicka and William Trang.
In singles action, Gio Valdez battled into a third set tie-breaker to record the only win for CLU at No. 1. Meanwhile at No. 4 singles, Sulahian rallied from a deficit to force a tiebreaker set as well but fell just short.
Cal Lutheran (1-3) will return to Poulson Tennis Center tomorrow, Tuesday Mar. 2, for a non-conference match against Arizona Christian at 4:00 p.m.
