PASADENA, Calif. - On the road Saturday night, the Cal Lutheran women's basketball team throttled past Caltech 70-48 inside the Braun Athletic Center.
The Regals jumped out to an 18-10 lead after the first quarter and improved their lead by outscoring the Beavers 21-11 in the second. CLU shot 52.9 percent on 9-for-17 from the field in the quarter and Taylor Messick led the way with six points. In the third quarter, Caltech and CLU each tallied 18 points while the Regals outscored CIT in the fourth 13-9.
For the game, the Violet and Gold shot 45.2 percent (28-for-62) while holding the Beavers to just 34.8 percent (16-for-46).
Offensive Highlights: Tatiana Dunlap and Sofia Cruz led the way with 12 points apiece. Chelsea Jacoby also scored in double figures with 10. The Regals knocked down seven three-pointers in the game with a pair coming from Cruz, Trianna Owen and Kiana Gray. Owen dished out four assists and four other Regals had three assists.
Defensive Highlights: Dunlap grabbed a team-high six rebounds while Owen, Jacoby and Cruz each grabbed five. Jacoby also notched four steals and Dunlap added three.
Opponent: Caltech was led by Kate Lewis who had a game-high 14 points. Michelle Wong tallied a game-high six assists while adding 10 points.
Notables: All 14 active players for CLU played in the game on Saturday.
Cal Lutheran (16-5, 10-2 SCIAC) continues conference action on the road this Tuesday, Feb. 9 against Pomona-Pitzer at 7:30 p.m.
