THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - A slow start on the road tonight gave way to a comeback effort from the Cal Lutheran women's basketball team in a 69-64 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) victory over La Verne.
Offensive Highlights: The fourth frame was the difference as the Regals erased a five-point deficit and won the period by an 18-8 margin. At the end of the day, CLU combined to shoot 44.8 percent from the floor despite struggles from both behind the arc and at the free-throw line. Trianna Owen led all players with 15 points and was the only Cal Lutheran student-athlete in double digits. Sofia Cruz poured in nine points and Haley Hodgson came off the bench for nine more. Cruz guided the ball with five assists and both Tatiana Dunlap and Chelsea Jacoby handed out three.
Defensive Highlights: Overall, the Regals came down with 41 rebounds, including 13 at the offensive end. Leading the Violet and Gold was Hodgson with eight, including a trio of offensive boards. She also supplied a trio of blocks in the win. Dunlap and Kiana Gray nabbed a pair of steals apiece.
The Opponent: The Leopards knocked down 40.9 percent of their shots and placed two players in double figures with Noelle Cobb and Emily Myers chipping in with 14 and 13, respectively. Myers was also a rebound shy of a double-double with a game-high nine.
Notables: The Regals stretched their win streak to nine games dating back to Dec. 11. The CLU women's basketball program has notched 10 or more wins in each of the last seven seasons.
Next Up: Cal Lutheran (10-3, 4-0 SCIAC) heads back out on the road on Tuesday, Jan. 12 when the Regals travel to Redlands for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off against the Bulldogs.
