ORANGE, Calif. - As anticipated, the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) showdown at Chapman today was a close one. Unfortunately for the Cal Lutheran women's basketball team, a 12-game win streak came to an end with a 65-63 loss to the Panthers. At halftime the squads were knotted at 38 after the Regals found themselves in a nine-point deficit at the end of the opening quarter. The second half was a compilation of lead changes and ties with the Regals coming up a bucket short.
Offensive Highlights: On a night when the Regals shot at a combined 41.7 percent, to best the Panthers, Chelsea Jacoby led the Violet and Gold with 13 points while Haley Hodgson scored 10. Sofia Cruz and Tatiana Dunlap each handed out three assists in the loss and both Dunlap and Jessica Salottolo added nine points.
Defensive Highlights: CLU also grabbed more rebounds than CU, holding a 44-38 edge. Hodgson paced the Regals with eight, including seven at the offensive end of the court, and Dunlap came down with six. Jacoby notched three blocks and Owen had a pair with Hodgson tallying the sixth of the game for the Violet and Gold. Salottolo recorded two of the four steals.
The Opponent: The Panthers were led by Natalia Ebrahimian with 19 points and Katelyn Serizawa with 10 rebounds and seven assists.
Notables: Cal Lutheran last dropped a game on Dec. 2 to NAIA Westmont. The Regals will look to return to the win column and start a new streak this week.
Next Up: Cal Lutheran (13-4, 7-1 SCIAC) has another tough opponent on tap for Tuesday, Jan. 26 when the Regals host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off at the Gilbert Arena.
