REDLANDS, Calif. - Back on the courts for the first time in nearly two and a half weeks, the Cal Lutheran men's tennis team was unable to shake the rust in a 9-0 loss to Redlands in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) road match this afternoon.
Starting with doubles, UR took an early 3-0 lead. The No. 1 battle between Moises Cardenas and Jesse Knight and Patrick Lipscomb and Nick Cummins was the closest of the day, though the Bulldogs' pair earned the 8-4 win.
A pair of singles matches went to third set tiebreakers in the second set. At No. 1, Cardenas gave Lipscomb a run for his money after falling behind early. The CLU senior bounced back for a second set win, but the final set went back to Lipscomb, 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 (10-7).
Another senior, Andrew Slater took Gram Leahy to three as well. Slater opened strong with a 6-2 win, but fell 6-0 in the second sequence of games before dropping the third by a 1-0 (10-5) margin.
Cal Lutheran (7-11, 2-3 SCIAC) returns to competition tomorrow morning when the Kingsmen travel to Whittier for a 10:00 a.m. first serve.
