THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - In their first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) doubleheader of the season, the Cal Lutheran baseball team took game one 4-2 before falling 9-4 in the second game at Ullman Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Trey Saito (2-0) picked up his second win of the season after pitching seven strong innings scattering seven hits and allowing just one earned run in game one.

The Kingsmen got on the scoreboard early after Gabe Gunter hit an RBI single to center to bring home Justin Caña. CLU added two more runs in the third inning after Ramsey Abushahla doubled in Max Price and Davey Casciola singled up the middle to score Abushahla.

Up 3-0 in the fifth inning, Gunter hit a double to right field and Casciola doubled later in the inning to bring Gunter around and give CLU a 4-0 lead. The Panthers would pick up runs in the sixth and eighth innings but Landry Kiyabu was able to record the two-inning save to secure a game one victory and series win.

In game two, Evan Peterson made his first career start on the hill for the Kingsmen, but the Panthers capitalized on CLU errors early on to take a big 8-2 lead after the fourth inning.

With the game all knotted at zero, Chapman led off the top of the second inning with a double. Peterson proceeded to strike out the next two batters, but an infield error allowed the inning to continue. The Panthers followed with three straight RBI singles to take an early lead and set the tone for the game.

After Chapman scored again in the third, CLU cut their lead in half with two in the bottom half of the inning. Spencer DuBois roped a triple to right center to bring in Austin Kay, and a sacrifice fly from Caña brought in DuBois from third.

After allowing a walk to the first batter in the fourth inning, Peterson was relieved by Marshall Pautsch. Chapman put together four hits and four runs in the inning to take a commanding lead.

CLU got two more runs on an RBI single from Collin Crowl in the fourth and an RBI groundout from Kyle Sanchez in the fifth, but after that, the Kingsmen were shutdown at the plate as the Panthers bullpen combined to pitch four shutout innings.

Casciola went 4-for-8 over the course of the two games including a 3-for-4 performance in game one while Crowl finished 3-for-5 on the day with three walks and Gunter went 3-for-8 at the dish.

Cal Lutheran (5-1, 2-1 SCIAC) suffered their first loss of the year but will look to get back in the win column in their next matchup at home on Friday, Feb. 27 against Caltech at 2:30 p.m.
