CLAREMONT, Calif. - Moises Cardenas and Connor Treacy both won their singles matches but Cal Lutheran couldn't keep it going as its Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) win-streak was snapped, falling 7-2 to Pomona-Pitzer Saturday afternoon.
The Sagehens took a hold of the lead when it swept the doubles portion of the match. Chris Weichert and Anthony Bello just hung on as they beat Alex Nichols and Treacy in the No. 1 doubles match 9-8 with a 7-5 tie-breaker to win it. Sam Crawford and Jonathon Kim took down Fergus Scott and Cardenas 9-7 in the No. 2 match and Graham Maassen and Connor Hudson beat Jesse Knight and Ian Slater 8-2 to complete the doubles sweep.
Cardenas improved his record to 11-3 when he beat Wiechert 6-4, 6-1 and Treacy defeated Hudson 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 but that would be as far as the Kingsmen would get Saturday.
Pomona-Pitzer would go on to sweep the No. 2, 4, 5, and 6 singles to win the match,
Cal Lutheran (5-9, 4-2 SCIAC) will look to return to its winning ways when it travels to Santa Barbara, Calif. on Saturday, April 13 and takes on UC Santa Cruz. The match will get underway at 11:00 a.m.
