ANAHEIM, Calif. -- The Cal Lutheran men's tennis team swept all six singles matches and improved to 4-1 in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) after defeating Chapman 8-1 Friday. The match marked the first time CLU swept all six singles matches since the season-opener against Occidental on Feb. 8.

The Panthers actually took the No. 1 doubles match as Troy Akin and Brett Buford defeated Alex Nichols and Connor Treacy.

Fortunately for Cal Lutheran, the Kingsmen would find it's winning ways and rattle off seven straight victories including the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches. Moises Cardenas and Fergus Scott got CLU its first point of the day when they beat Charlie Werman and Sam Mitteldorf 8-5. Following that, Ian Slater and Jesse Knight gave CLU a lead they would not relinquish, topping Justin Thompson and Evan Valentine 8-1.

Cal Lutheran would keep it going as the match shifted to singles with Cardenas beating Thompson 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 1 matchup and Nichols winning 6-1, 6-2 against Werman in the No. 2.

Treacy gave CLU the match- clinching point when he defeated Buford 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 3 contest while Sean Handley picked up a win in the No. 4 singles match when he rallied after dropping the first set 5-7, but took the next two 6-4, 10-3.

Slater won the No. 5 game 6-4, 6-1 and Scott completed the singles sweep as he defeated Hunter Morris 6-2, 7-5 in the No. 6 contest.

Cal Lutheran (5-8, 4-1 SCIAC) will look to continue its winning ways when it travels to Claremont, Calif. and takes on Pomona-Pitzer. The match is set to get underway at 10:00 a.m.
