THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The Cal Lutheran women's basketball team notched their first win of the season on Tuesday night in a 52-40 win over Augsburg (Minn.) inside of the Gilbert Arena in their home opener.
Jessica Salottolo had a team-high 11 points and Sofia Cruz had 10 points and eight rebounds to lead the Regals who shot 46.2% in the first half on 12-of-26 shooting and shot 50% from three-point land for the game.
CLU jumped out to a big lead in the first half behind Chelsea Jacoby who had six rebounds and three assists in the early going. Jacoby also scored all eight of her points in the first half before being sidelined due to foul trouble in the second half.
The Regals led by as many as 19 points and took a 27-8 lead over the Auggies after Salottolo knocked down her second three-point field goal in the half.
Augsburg went on a 12-2 run to cut Cal Lutheran's lead to single-digits at 29-20 but Trianna Owen drained the Regals fourth three in the half with 47 seconds remaining to take a 32-20 lead into halftime.
In the second half, CLU cooled down from the field but still shot 40% from three-point territory behind two treys from Gianna Dibacco.
The Regals played an even 20-20 half with the Auggies and maintained a double-digit lead throughout the half to ensure the victory.
Haley Hodgson led the team with two blocks and the Regals played strong defense throughout the night limiting the Auggies to just 30.4% from the floor and just 16.7% (3-for-18) from three-point range.
Taylor Messick finished with eight rebounds and five points and Jacoby finished with a game-high 10 rebounds and team-high three steals.
Cal Lutheran (1-2) will be back in action inside Gilbert Arena on Friday, Dec. 5 at 6:00 p.m. against George Fox (Ore.).
