LOS ANGELES, Calif. - After locking up their third consecutive Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) championship, three Regals were recognized by the league with post season accolades.
Though the trio of Kylie McLogan, Allie Eason and Shannon Pearson were honored, a number of other deserving Regals were snubbed in the SCIAC voting.
Leading the way was McLoganwho was named the SCIAC Athlete of the Year while the Freshman of the Year distinction went to Eason, who also garnered Second Team All-SCIAC recognition and was the only rookie honored on either team. For the second time in as many years Pearsonwas named to the First Team All-SCIAC.
An All-America Honorable Mention, First Team All-West Region and First Team All-SCIAC a year ago, McLogan improved on that performance, reiterating her presence on the court as the most complete player in the league.
In 44 games of SCIAC play the Upland, Calif. native tallied 165 kills (3.75 per set) and 157 digs (3.57 per set), posting seven double-doubles as an outside hitter. McLogan added 19 total blocks with four solo and handed out 13 assists. She also had nine service aces. Overall this year, McLogan finished with a team-high 375 kills (4.31 per set) to hit at a .241 clip. She finished with 310 digs (3.56 per set), 31 blocks (eight solo), 18 assists and 33 aces.
Eason made an immediate impact on a team that was well rounded from the get-go. In her first year of collegiate volleyball she earned a starting spot as an outside hitter, early in the season. Playing in 54 of the 58 league games she tallied team-highs with 169 kills (3.13 per set) and 21 aces, was second on the team with 188 digs (3.48 per set), adding 19 total blocks (six solo) and 11 assists. She had seven double-doubles in SCIAC play. Overall the Oxnard, Calif. native recorded 244 kills (2.77 per set), 274 digs (3.11 per set), 30 total blocks (eight solo), and 28 aces.
Rounding out the recipients was Pearson, a senior middle blocker who was named AVCA All-America Honorable Mention, First Team All-West Region and First Team All-SCIAC a year ago. In 55 SCIAC games she recorded 133 kills (2.42 per set) and led the team with a .286 attacking percentage. She was second on the squad with 39 total blocks (eight solo) and third with 16 aces. Overall in 2012, Pearson tallied a team-high 73 total blocks with 15 solo stops. She had 233 kills (2.35 per set) and hit .264 with 29 aces, second only to McLogan.
Cal Lutheran earned its third consecutive SCIAC title with a 15-1 mark. The Regals completed the season with a 25-4 overall record and competed against five nationally and nine regionally ranked teams.
The Regals will host the SCIAC Post Season Tournament slated to begin Thursday, Nov. 1 with matches at 5:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults. Children 12 and under are free. Students, faculty and staff with current SCIAC ID are free.
The winner of the SCIAC Tournament will earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament set for Nov. 9-11.
