THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran men's soccer team battled Russell Sage College to a physical 0-0 draw Thursday night at William Rolland Stadium in its 2026 opener.
The Kingsmen (0-0-1) came out firing in the opening half, putting 10 shots toward the Sage goal while limiting the Gators to just one attempt. Cal Lutheran continued to control the offensive pressure throughout the night, finishing with a 14-4 advantage in shots and an 8-4 edge in corner kicks.
Despite the strong offensive pressure, neither side could find the breakthrough. Sage goalkeeper Mateja Milutin turned aside six Cal Lutheran shots, including two from
Liam Stoner and one each from
Noah Parks,
Riley Blake,
Odin Kiyabu, and
Yusuf Bodiat.
Defensively, the Kingsmen kept the Gators' attack in check throughout the match. Sage managed just four total shots, with only two reaching the frame.
Anthony Sound made the two saves for Cal Lutheran to secure the shutout.
The physicality picked up as the match progressed, with both teams receiving cautions in the second half. Cal Lutheran was whistled for 13 fouls compared to seven for Sage.
The Kingsmen return to action tomorrow, September 4, for the second of 10 consecutive home contests, hosting Gordon College at 4:30 p.m.
