THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran men's soccer team outshot Gordon College 22-8 Friday afternoon but struggled to find the back of the net, falling 1-0 to the Fighting Scots at William Rolland Stadium.
The Kingsmen (0-1-1) controlled the offensive momentum early, putting nine shots toward the Gordon goal in the opening half while holding the Fighting Scots to just four attempts. Cal Lutheran continued to apply pressure after halftime, adding 13 more shots to finish with the advantage.
Despite the offensive pressure, Gordon goalkeeper Riley Calemmo kept the Kingsmen off the scoreboard, making eight saves throughout the match.
The Fighting Scots broke through in the 55th minute when Andrew Lazich converted a pass from Santiago Hernandez to give Gordon a 1-0 lead.
Cal Lutheran continued to search for the equalizer, registering eight shots on target, but Calemmo turned away each attempt to preserve the Gordon lead.
Tika Kakimoto and
Zach Mohr each recorded four shots, while Mohr put two on frame.
Viktor Cole also recorded two shots on goal off the bench.
Defensively, the Kingsmen limited Gordon to just three shots on target.
Jackson Bankers made two saves in goal for Cal Lutheran.
The Kingsmen now get Saturday to regroup before returning to action Sunday, September 6, against Linfield. Kickoff is set for 9:30 a.m. at William Rolland.
