Regals Overpowered by Athenas at Home

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran women's lacrosse ran into a tough test on Saturday morning, falling 26-2 to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at William Rolland Stadium.

The Regals (3-8, 0-6 SCIAC) struggled to gain momentum throughout, as CMS controlled possession from the opening draw and never let up. The Athenas built a commanding 12-1 lead after the first quarter and continued to pull away the rest of the way.

Josie Oparanaku put Cal Lu on the board in the first, while Peyton Richardson added the Regals' second score late in the second off an assist from Oparanaku, who finished with a team-high two points despite the limited opportunities.

CMS dictated the pace behind a dominant performance in the draw circle, winning 25 draw controls compared to just three for CLU. That advantage translated into a 38-3 edge in total shots and kept the Regals on the defensive end for much of the contest.

In goal, Bella Bravo recorded seven saves and three ground balls while facing constant pressure from the CMS attack.

The Athenas were led by Amelia Ulmer's six goals, with multiple players contributing in a full-squad offensive effort.

Cal Lutheran will look to regroup as it continues conference play on Saturday, April 11, traveling to face Redlands at 1 p.m.
