REDLANDS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran women's lacrosse battled in the draw circle, but could not overcome both the offensive and defensive pressure from Redlands, falling 22-4 on Saturday afternoon at Farquhar Field.
The Regals (3-9, 0-7 SCIAC) stayed competitive in possession, finishing just behind the Bulldogs in draw controls (15-13), but struggled to convert opportunities as turnovers proved costly throughout the contest. Redlands capitalized on those extra chances, building an 8-1 lead after the opening quarter and maintaining control the rest of the way.
Despite the result,
Sydnee Hill paced Cal Lu with two goals while adding two ground balls.
Sydney Shin delivered a strong all-around performance with one goal, one assist, eight draw controls, and three ground balls. Her third-quarter score marked the 100th goal of her career, as she became the second Regal this season to reach the milestone, joining
Josie Oparanaku.
Oparanaku also contributed a goal for CLU, while the Regals finished with 11 shots and seven on goal against a persistent Bulldog defense.
Defensively, Cal Lu worked to limit possessions, but Redlands held advantages in both shots and ground balls, using a balanced offensive effort with 13 different players scoring to keep momentum throughout all four quarters.
The Regals will return home on Wednesday, April 15, hosting Pomona-Pitzer at 7 p.m. inside William Rolland Stadium. The Sagehens are undefeated in SCIAC play and are currently ranked No. 10 in the IWLCA national poll.
