THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran women's water polo delivered a dominant 18-6 victory over Caltech on Wednesday afternoon, getting back into the win column at the Samuelson Aquatics Center.
After a quieter offensive showing in their previous outing, the Regals (10-11, 6-2 SCIAC) wasted no time finding their rhythm, controlling the match from the opening sprint and never looking back.
Cal Lu set the tone early, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first quarter behind goals from
Aleaha Gonzalez and
Lauren Lohmeier while holding Caltech scoreless. The Regals broke the game wide open in the second period, erupting for six goals in a relentless stretch that showcased both depth and efficiency. Six different Regals found the back of the cage in the first half alone, helping CLU carry an 8-2 advantage into the break.
The momentum only continued after halftime. CLU added four more goals in the third quarter and closed the match with a six-goal fourth, putting together its most complete offensive performance in recent games.
Franki Court led the charge with a game-high four goals and five points, while Gonzalez contributed two goals and two assists. Lohmeier tallied two goals and an assist, and 13 more Regals recorded at least one point in the contest, highlighting a well-rounded team performance on both ends of the pool.
Defensively, CLU remained active throughout, totaling 19 steals and limiting Caltech to just six goals on 22 shots.
Izzy de Souza and
Sophie Raquel split time in the cage, combining for 11 saves.
Cal Lutheran will look to keep the momentum rolling on Saturday, March 28, when it travels to Whittier for an 11 a.m. matchup. The Regals defeated the Poets 14-8 earlier this season in Thousand Oaks.
