THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran softball team endured a difficult afternoon on Saturday at Hutton Field, falling in both games of a doubleheader to Pacific Lutheran by scores of 8-0 and 12-0.
The Regals move to 4-12 on the season, while the Lutes improve to 7-3.
GAME ONE: PACIFIC LUTHERAN 8, CAL LUTHERAN 0 (5 INN.)
Pac Lu gradually built its lead in the opener, scoring single runs in the second and third before adding three in the fourth and three more in the fifth to secure the run-rule victory.
The Regals recorded six hits in the game, with
Sofia Aviles,
Samantha Swerdloff,
Reyna Perez, and
Kate Brandeberry each contributing base knocks. Aviles and Swerdloff both finished with multi-hit performances.
Cal Lutheran threatened in the second and fifth innings, putting multiple runners on base, but the Lutes and pitcher Paige Wilson worked out of both situations to keep the Regals off the scoreboard.
In the circle,
Kalli Strahm started the game and allowed two runs across three innings.
Ava Tepesano followed in relief, while
Olivia Oergel recorded the final out of the fifth inning.
GAME TWO: PACIFIC LUTHERAN 12, CAL LUTHERAN 0 (5 INN.)
The Lutes carried their momentum into the nightcap, erupting for nine runs in the opening inning and never looking back.
PLU added two runs in the third and one more in the fourth to extend its advantage.
Cal Lutheran's lone hit in the game came from
Cassie Jay, who delivered a single in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Joie Steinkamp started in the circle for the Regals before
Ally Forbell and
Olivia Oergel combined to finish the game in relief.
