Regals Run Wild in Rout of Leopards

LA VERNE, Calif. – The No. 3 Cal Lutheran women's water polo team opened conference play in emphatic fashion on Saturday morning, overwhelming No. 6 University of La Verne 25-3 at Las Flores Pool.

Cal Lutheran (3-7, 1-0 SCIAC) controlled every facet from the opening sprint, racing out to a 6-1 lead after the first quarter and never looking back. The Regals matched that six-goal output in both the second and third periods before pouring in seven more in the fourth.

The offense was firing on all cylinders, with nine different Regals finding the back of the cage and six recording a multi-goal morning.

Lauren Lohmeier led the charge with a game-high six goals on eight shots, including three in the final quarter alone. Hudson Geier turned in an all-around performance with three goals and two assists, while Aleaha Gonzalez added four goals of her own. Jacqueline Brandon was perfect on the day, scoring four times on four shots.

Olivia Hurley tallied three goals, Kelsee Espitia recorded a goal and two assists, and Clarisa Robles finished with two goals and two assists. Chloe Gardhouse and Franki Court each added a goal to round out the balanced attack.

Cal Lutheran's dominance extended beyond scoring, as the Regals held a 12-4 advantage in steals and won all four sprints. Defensively, CLU limited the Leopards to just one goal in each of the first three quarters and shut them out in the fourth.

In the cage, Izzy de Souza and Sophie Raquel combined for 11 saves, allowing just three goals on 20 shots to anchor the defensive effort.

With the victory, the Regals set the tone for conference play and will look to carry that momentum into Wednesday's road matchup at University of Redlands. First sprint is set for 4 p.m.
