Regals Handle Redlands to Stay Unbeaten in Conference

REDLANDS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran women's water polo continued its dominant start to conference play on Wednesday afternoon, rolling past Redlands 20-5 at Thompson Aquatic Center.

With the win, the Regals move to 4-7 overall and 2-0 in SCIAC action, outscoring conference opponents 45-8 through their first two league matchups.

CLU wasted no time seizing control, erupting for six goals in the opening period. Olivia Hurley set the tone with back-to-back scores in the first 90 seconds, and the Regals never let up. Cal Lu added three more goals in the second quarter to take a commanding 9-2 lead into halftime.

The third period provided another decisive burst. Cal Lutheran poured in six more goals, including four straight from Hurley, to break the game open and extend the advantage to 15-3 heading into the final frame. The Regals capped the afternoon with five fourth-quarter goals to secure the 15-goal victory.

Hurley turned in a monster performance, scoring a game-high seven goals on eight shots while adding two steals. Kelsee Espitia finished with three goals and an assist, and Lauren Lohmeier also netted three goals. Chloe Gardhouse delivered one of the most complete efforts of the day, recording two goals and three assists for five total points.

Waileia Lee added two goals, Aleaha Gonzalez contributed a goal and two assists, and Clarisa Robles and Franki Court each found the back of the cage to round out the balanced offensive attack.

In goal, Izzy de Souza recorded four saves in 16 minutes of action, while Sophie Raquel tallied three saves over the final two quarters to help anchor the defensive effort.

Cal Lutheran returns home next Wednesday, March 4, to host Occidental at 4 p.m. as the Regals look to keep their conference momentum rolling.
