LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Cal Lutheran men's volleyball team moved up to No. 4 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Poll, released Tuesday.
Despite not competing since February 5, and not playing a Division III match since February 1, the Kingsmen climbed one spot in the national rankings as teams around the country shifted positions. Cal Lutheran, still 11-2 overall, continues to benefit from a strong body of work while other top-10 programs reshuffle.
Those changes directly impact this week's road trip.
Carthage College, which CLU will face on Saturday, dropped from third to No. 5 after a five-set loss to UC Santa Cruz. The Banana Slugs remain at No. 7 following that win.
Friday's opponent, Milwaukee School of Engineering, made one of the biggest jumps in the poll. After receiving votes last week, MSOE vaulted to No. 19 following a series of sweeps, including a straight-set victory over UCSC.
The Kingsmen now turn their focus to a pivotal four-match trip to Wisconsin, beginning Thursday at 5 p.m. PT against Wisconsin Lutheran. Cal Lu will take on No. 19 MSOE on Friday before squaring off with the new No. 5 Carthage on Saturday, followed by Lakeland University.
With two of the four matches coming against ranked opponents, Cal Lutheran's move to No. 4 sets the stage for a weekend loaded with top-20 implications.
