LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. – Cal Lutheran football's Jacob Ramirez has been named SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Week after a game-sealing performance in the Kingsmen's 24-3 victory over Azusa Pacific on Saturday night at William Rolland Stadium.

Ramirez delivered the defining play of the game late in the fourth quarter, intercepting a pass and returning it 62 yards for a touchdown with 3:26 remaining. With the Kingsmen leading 17-3, Ramirez's pick-six extended the lead to 24-3 and put the game out of reach.

The defensive standout finished with five total tackles, including two solo stops, and recorded one of the Kingsmen's two takeaways in the win.

Cal Lutheran's defense stifled the Cougars throughout the night, limiting Azusa Pacific to just 184 yards of total offense, including 83 passing yards. The Kingsmen also recorded four sacks and held the Cougars to a single field goal, completing a dominant defensive effort.

This marks the first weekly honor of the junior safety's career, and the second for Cal Lutheran football this season.

The Kingsmen are back in action this Saturday, October 17, for Homecoming against Pomona-Pitzer.
