COLORADO SPRINGS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran men's soccer (1-2, 0-0 SCIAC) was defeated by Whitman by a score of 2-1 in the second and final match of its road trip to Colorado.
Max Scott scored in the 16th minute on an assist from
Kane Reese.
The Blues got off to a hot start, netting a goal just over one minute into the game.
The Kingsmen were able to recover, managing a couple shots and a corner kick over the next ten minutes. Keeper
Anthony Sound made a save in the 11th minute, leading to Scott's goal as Cal Lutheran responded to tie it up in the 16th minute.
Whitman (1-0-3, 0-0-0 NWC) was able to control possession for a while thereafter, but Cal Lutheran had a couple more chances around the 35th minute when
Dane Paulson had a shot on goal saved by the Blues' keeper.
The two teams went into the half tied at one.
A few minutes into the second half,
Isaak Tanaka replaced Sound at keeper. He got into the action not too long after, making a save in the 65th minute.
The Kingsmen fired away the rest of the match with nine shots in the final 23 minutes, including shots on goal by
Yusuf Bodiat,
Jackson Smart,
Maximo Schelotto, and
Alejandro Loza. All were saved by the Whitman keeper.
In the 84th minute, the Blues were able to get on the scoreboard once more, with that goal proving to be the game-winner as the Kingsmen lost 2-1.
Cal Lutheran totaled four more shots (15 to 11) and two more shots on goal (6 to 4) than Whitman despite the disappointing number on the scoreboard. Loza was able to fire off five shots in just 32 minutes with an aggressive style of play.
The Kingsmen will head back to California and look to get back in the win column this Thursday when they visit The Master's up in Santa Clarita for a 5pm kickoff.
