CLAREMONT, Calif. — Cal Lutheran men's soccer (2-3-1, 1-0-1) earned a hard-fought road win Saturday night, defeating Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 2–1 behind goals from
Max Scott and
Kane Reese.
CMS struck first in the 20th minute when Sean Lee finished from distance to give the Stags the early lead. The Kingsmen answered just four minutes later, as Scott drilled a shot inside the left post to level the match at 1–1.
The breakthrough came in the 77th minute when
Gavin Arce chested a ball down in the box and set up Reese, who slotted it low for his first goal of the season to put Cal Lutheran ahead 2–1.
From there, the Kingsmen defense held firm, blocking multiple late attempts and relying on keeper
Isaak Tanaka to secure the result. CMS held a narrow 15–12 edge in shots, but Cal Lutheran made the most of its chances to earn the road victory.
Cal Lutheran continues SCIAC play on Wednesday, September 24 against Chapman.
