THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran men's soccer (2-4-1, 1-1-1 SCIAC) came up short Wednesday night, falling 2-1 to Chapman inside William Rolland Stadium.
The Panthers applied pressure early, outshooting the Kingsmen 11-1 in the first half and earning six corners to Cal Lutheran's one. Chapman struck first in the 13th minute to grab the lead, then doubled it just before halftime with a goal in the closing seconds to make it 2-0 at the break.
The Kingsmen regrouped after halftime and worked their way back into the match. In the 58th minute,
Kane Reese converted a chance to cut the deficit to 2-1. Cal Lutheran battled throughout the second half, tightening defensively and pushing forward in search of an equalizer, but the Panthers held firm to close out the match.
Chapman finished with a 19-5 advantage in total shots, including 10 on goal, but Cal Lutheran's second-half effort gave them momentum heading into its next contest.
The Kingsmen continue SCIAC play on the road, traveling to face La Verne on Saturday with an opportunity to bounce back.
