THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran battled against the #22 CMS Stags in a three-game series this weekend. The Kingsmen were outlasted in the first two games but pulled off a 4-2 victory in the series finale.
Cal Lutheran 9, CMS 13
The Kingsmen's late comeback attempt was cut short at 13-9 in an offensive outburst from both sides.
Alec Garcia had two hits and two runs and
Lucas Danielewicz recorded three hits and two RBIs.
Troy Anderson produced the game's highlight for the Kingsmen with a two-run home run while tallying four RBIs.
Cal Lutheran was down by one run in the third inning, but then
Jona Dawson drove in
Carlos Vega with a double. CMS took its lead back in the third until Anderson's two-RBI single gave the Kingsmen a 3-2 lead.
Over the next three innings, four home runs from the Stags contributed to their 12-3 advantage. Cal Lutheran mounted a comeback, which started with an RBI single from Danielewicz in the seventh. Later in the eighth inning, the Kingsmen came to life with five runs. Anderson's two-run shot started things off, and RBI singles from Danielewicz and
Josh Quinn cut the lead to 12-9. CMS added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth.
Cal Lutheran 0, CMS 2
Leo Bristow started the game for the Kingsmen and was lights out. Bristow pitched 8.1 innings and allowed just two runs, racking up seven strikeouts. Dawson and
Kai Caranto contributed offensively, each going 2/4. CMS got its two runs in the first and ninth innings which were enough to get the win. Cal Lutheran had seven hits to the Stags' six but were unable to convert with runs in scoring position.

The Kingsmen came out on top in the final game of the series, featuring two RBIs from
Noah Matsumoto and both Dawson and
Philip Jeong going 2/4. Starter
JJ Frazier kept Cal Lutheran in the game by allowing only one run over seven innings.
Oscar Lopez pitched in both Saturday games and recorded the two-inning save in game three.
Danielewicz gave the Kingsmen a 1-0 lead in the third with a single that scored
Ethan Dungo. Later in the inning, Caranto scored as Matsumoto hit a sacrifice fly to put the Kingsmen up, 2-0. Matsumoto was at it again in the seventh with an RBI single to increase Cal Lutheran's lead to 3-0.
CMS cut the Kingsmen's lead to 3-2 with back-to-back home runs in the eighth, but Jeong scored on a wild pitch in the bottom half of the inning to give Cal Lutheran a two-run cushion. Lopez would do the rest on the mound and slam the door.
The Kingsmen capped off conference play with a 16-8 record and claimed the #4-seed in the SCIAC tournament. The Purple & Gold will gear up for the SCIAC Tournament, but first they will take on Pacific at home tomorrow at 10:00 a.m for senior day.
